Counter-Mapping Speculative Fiction - Gwilym Eades (HYBRID EVENT)

Gwilym Eades will join us to continue our Livingmaps Seminar Series 2024, Countermapping the future

This talk is based upon the theoretical framework of Gwilym Eades' recently published monograph Spatialities of Speculative Fiction, touching as that work does, upon several examples to illuminate the idea of responsibilities of duty owed to works in various modes of fictional speculation. Nina Allan, Jo Walton, Susannah Clarke and other authors will be discussed as counter-mapping taken-for-granted generic expectations and thus as fulfilling, through counter-mapping, ‘duties’ in the production of spatialities of utopian desire in critical new ways.

This is a hybrid event. You are welcome to join us either online or in-person at King's College London, Strand Campus. Please ensure you book the correct ticket type.
